On February 6th, the fantastic Mark Lanegan Band will release its long-awaited new album Blues Funeral, the first since 2004’s critically acclaimed Bubblegum.
And it looks outstanding. We all know Mark Lanegan makes great music, but the first thing that strikes you about Blues Funeral is its spectacular album art. Designed by Alison Fielding, and sourced from The Design Library’s extensive archive of antique, vintage and modern textile designs, the dark pink flower image printed on matt card beautifully reflects the mournful tone of the record, and is certain to become one of rock’s most iconic album covers. And it’s not just the front that’s remarkable – the flower motif continues, with beautiful black-on-black patterns running throughout the enclosed lyric booklet and on the CD itself. In fact, Blues Funeral looks so stunning, it won a coveted slot in Creative Review’s ‘Record Sleeves Of The Month’!
The album was recorded by the multi-talented Alain Johannes at his home studio in Hollywood, California. Johannes also plays on the record along with legendary drummer Jack Irons, and there are even appearances by renowned musicians Greg Dulli (The Twilight Singers/Afghan Whigs) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age).
Blues Funeral will be available digitally and on CD and LP on Monday 6th February. To coincide with its release, the Mark Lanegan Band will be touring Europe and the U.S.
