Just received our sign-off samples of the Dead Can Dance lid and base box (see the picture). The client wanted a classy feel, and after I’d suggested a few samples we decided on black suede and black-lined board. We also had a black foil, but I thought I’d try a clear foil for the tests too – could look a little more intriguing, rather than just black on black suede.
The black raven has a slight bronze feel to it and looks very minimal, whereas the clear stands out much more! I preferred the clear – surprise, surprise! It’s slightly more intriguing than the black, but there were mixed views from everyone in the office. And as it matched some of the inner obi cards (Japanese style spine wraps) on the inner product, we went for the black. Ah well.
The job was packed with nine CDs into the three-quarter-length lid and base box, shrink-wrapped to keep it pristine, and into a litho-printed E-flute outer. Simply stunning!
